Being as obsessive as I am for anything related to Dust 514 or Project Legion, hoping to god I can find something thatGÇÖll shed some light as to whatGÇÖs going on considering that CCP hasnGÇÖt said anything about Project Legion for half a year now and wonGÇÖt be doing any presentations at FanfestGǪ I put my Google Fu to work about twice a month and usually come up empty.
But this time, I found quite a bit to disappoint me. I found a few bits of screenshots/level design concepts weGÇÖve never seen, and learned (regrettably) that a lot of my favorite developers at CCP are no longer there.
Newer stuff, such as this screenshot of the Gallente Research Facility using GÇôan actual graphics engine- without the PS3 limitations or this crashed Caldari Raven which may be a GÇôlittle- small scale compared to itGÇÖs actual size.
You can find more of those here. Those screenshots were presumably taken from within the new Project Legion that CCP has been working on, and considering that the source is Yang Haoliang GÇô the current Art Manager at CCP GÇô offers bit more credence to that theory.
However, itGÇÖs not all good news. Sun Yiming for instance, who left CCP in March 2012, shortly before Fanfest 2012 where the meat of Dust 514 was revealed. They now work for Guerilla games, presumably working on something related to Killzone.
An example of their work: https://onrrysun.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/newop06.jpg
Given the date, this is an early rendition of the Gallente Communications Outpost - albeit looking a hell of a lot more interesting. We can clearly see some signs that the outpost retained and if you need more evidence just look in the top left where it says GÇÿDust 514GÇÖ in the Unreal Editor. ItGÇÖs older than hell and those with eagle eyes will spot the GÇ£BunkerGÇ¥ style turrets from the Closed Beta back in June 2012. You can find more of these level design concepts here: https://onrrysun.wordpress.com/my-current-example-work/
Worse yet, Galan Pang, is also a notable concept artist who is no longer with CCP, it seems. He now works for a video game company called Kabam. If youGÇÖve seen concept art of Dust 514, it was probably by him. If you didnGÇÖt know, he was responsible for all of this: https://www.behance.net/gallery/16184325/DUST-514-design https://www.behance.net/gallery/16184145/DUST-514-environment
That comes as a major disappointment to me because I genuinely loved his art and I personally felt like it truly captured the essence of New Eden. HeGÇÖs one of many art developers whoGÇÖve left CCP, however.
What about other artists with CCP?
CCP Supalette (William Chen) is also no-longer with CCP as of December 2014, having GÇô like Galan Pang - left for Kabam. This came as a particular blow to me personally because I had met this guy at Fanfest 2014 and discussed a bunch of different ideas with other members of the Dust 514 community who had gone. He was (one of?) the artists responsible for the Minmatar Heavy, among other things.
CCP JuSan (Juansheng Bao), who was responsible for the Amarr Scrambler Pistol, among other things, left CCP Games for Directive Games back in December 2014 as well. He was the Lead 3D Artist.
CCP Photon (G+¡sli Konr+í+¦sson), Lead Technical Artist for CCP Games, left for Directive Games as well back in September 2014. He was one of the developers we spoke with at Fanfest 2014 who showcased Project Legion, if memory serves.
Lastly, thereGÇÖs Thomas Mountfort, who left CCP in June 2014. Thomas was responsible for the cinematic trailers that inspired us toGǪ Well, actually play the game, despite its faults.
All in all, my search for good news wound up being anything but. Sucks, to say the least, but what can you honestly do. What I have gained from this is a sense of worry as to what the hell is going on at CCP Shanghai. The CPM has said a few times now that they've been expanding and while it is true that they have done a lot of hiring lately, I can't help but wonder what happened with so many members of the art team - let alone other teams.

I assume the Legion project has as many as it needs at the moment, which is likely not many at this early stage.
Maybe. Not exactly wise to let go of the people who are most familiar with your franchise though, but what do I know lol.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Anyways, we've known for a while that Dust had no permanent, or even semi-permanent, artists left since Legion was put into development.
Sure, but considering the sheer amount of them dropping off in the same period, you have to sort of wonder what's going on. Project Legion especially would be grounds to hire -more- artists if they were doing anything differently, including stuff like that Salvaging drone (SCORPION) that they revealed.

Who is this btw because there was artwork from the amarr scout waaaaaay before they started talking about it apparently. I guess this is why we have a war barge that looks the way it does. Not to bash whoever made it but the light in it fluctuates between bright and less bright... I can see that for an engine, but not for stars... or the hangar bay for that matter.
Same guy who made the original (and arguably much more awesome) Gallente Assault helmet: https://tonywork.artstation.com/portfolio/gallente-helmet-for-ccp-fanfest-2010
He was a 3D renderer who stopped working with CCP after Uprising.

You guys are all blind by fandom. Those shots look terrible. Maybe 5 years ago they would be decent? but today they have the aliasing of Skyrim done on 8 year old hardware. The fact that production shots showing off the game are not even done in 4k shows just how behind the times and complacent CCP has become. They used to be years ahead of the times... Sad.
You do realize that getting a computer to run 4K at 60FPS is considered ultra-high end right now, right..? Despite popular belief, 1080p is still the standard right now because just being able to run 4K is at least $1000 just in a compatible GPU and monitor that supports that resolution... To say that "They're behind the times" because they don't cater to the least common denominator (a bunch of enthusiasts who likely wouldn't even bother with a niche game like Legion for longer than it takes to admire the graphics) is profound at best.

That would be the case if CCP was getting bunch more guys. No concept, technical, level artists means no new assets. Thats why most of the updates is mostly made up of monetization crap, changes to mechanics, and bug fixes. They are probably still artists but they probably not even thinking about designing anything new with Dust.
Anything new with Dust 514 is to be expected. We were told a year ago that we would not be receiving hardcore development for Dust 514, so expecting new assets was off the table right there.
What is startling, however, is that this means there are no new assets for -LEGION-, and that is what should be considered a major red flag. If development for Legion has gone stagnant, then we really don't have a long-term future. The last PS3 gets manufactured next year and after that, we're on legacy hardware that can't be replaced. We need to seriously get some progression going or all of our efforts are basically nill.

CCP has already come out and said that they don't have any artists and that nearly all assests have been diverted to Legion. You guys are looking too far into this.
It's the same development team dude... "Diverted to Legion" doesn't mean they suddenly stopped working for CCP and went over to a completely different game development team, they're either working for CCP Shanghai or they're not. In this case, they're not. That distinction doesn't separate them from Dust 514 or Legion.

That what I was thinking awhile ago, but I didn't post it because I was mainly talking about dust. Again if there isn't anyone working on new assets that means Dust has no future its just in an undead state until further notice; thats what I'm trying to get at. You can see this by looking at the updates. Sooner or later it'll be programmers because they won't be anyone else to leave or layoff. Its only a matter of time. Also what were the posts that said shanghai was expanding? I'm pretty sure all your efforts are pretty nil, not trying to be an ass about it, but it seems this is how CCP wants.
What gets me is that they're still hiring for CCP Shanghai, so there's a lot of conflicting evidence.

Just search CCPGames.com/jobs. I mean, they're not hiring a -lot- of people, they're only hiring one position, but a few months ago they were looking for a lot of programmers and what not.
